Midweek Musings #1

Currently...

...feeling homesick, in spite of only being back in Liverpool for 2 weeks.
...watching all the programmes I neglected over exams, there's a lot to catch up on.
...listening to James Vincent McMorrow's latest album, Post Tropical.
...reading The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult.
...eating the chocolate orange cookies I made at the weekend.
...drinking hot chocolate made with almond milk.
...loving my new Ikea boxes, which don't seem to be on the website.
...anticipating belated birthday celebrations tonight!
...enjoying exams being over.
...wishing for my ability to sleep to return.

Mello Mello

I spied this little restaurant whilst en route to the bike shop one day and after a quick google thought it sounded like a place worth a visit, especially as Conor is a vegetarian.

As exams are over (for now), I figured this weekend just gone was the perfect time to head out for a meal.

The restaurant-come-bar (-come-music studio; in the basement, of course), serves delicious, extremely cheap, food and has a great selection of  board games to keep you entertained.

I had the lasagna which was insanely good and we played a couple of games of super mastermind - definitely forgot how stressful mastermind was!

By the looks of things it's host to a number of music events which is right up my street so a return visit will no doubt be made.

Mello Mello's website can be found here. If you ever find yourself in Liverpool, I would highly recommend them.

P.S. Apologies for the blurry pictures, the lighting was rather poor!

Barnesy Bakes || Brown Sugar Orange Chocolate Chip Cookies

This is my third time in 4 months baking these and my 2nd time using chocolate orange. I made this particular batch on request, as they went down so well last time!

The recipe can be found on my sister's blog - here. I used about half chocolate orange and made up the rest of the 250g with white and plain cooking chocolate.

I definitely recommend giving these a go, they are 100% worth it.

TV || Luther

Jack was on at me all summer to watch Luther, starring Idris Elba (and costarring 'Andy' from Hollyoaks, anyone remember him? Just me?). Given that I'm supposed to be revising at the moment, now was obviously the perfect time to finally take his advice.

Luther is a "British psychological crime drama" and is brilliant. I got through the first two seasons in two days and no doubt I'll get through the most recent one today. The first two can be found on Netflix and if you don't have it already you get a 30 day free trial so no excuses.

2014.

"I don't get it. Tomorrow is just tomorrow like today is just yesterday's tomorrow. Just because the year is changing doesn't mean..." - A note on my phone from last night, would quite like to know where that thought process was going.

As nice as it is to have an excuse for a celebration, I don't really see NYE as that big of a deal. So this year I didn't spend £50 on a ticket to something in London (I actually really wanted to go, let's not talk about it) and instead I spent the night with my best friend and her family. It was nice and low key: we played articulate and none of the three poppers I was holding went off :(, a perfect evening made even better by today's lack of hangover.

In spite of me saying I don't see the fact that it's now 2014 as a big deal I do think it's as good a time as any to think about how one can improve various aspects of one's life. So, here we go...

♦ Keep working hard at uni and graduate with a good degree
♦ Learn a language - german, spanish or french, although maybe not until I've graduated
♦ Read more
♦ Take more photos/learn to use my camera better
♦ Get fitter and stronger - continue working hard at the gym
♦ Cook more/be more consistent with my eating habits
♦ Take proper time out for myself and make time to get enough sleep
♦ Explore Liverpool

Happy New Year everyone.
